Introduction

Cc Foundation was honored to announce the opening of artist Song Kun’s latest solo exhibition Sukhavati 。o O on September 15, 2018 at Cc Foundation & Art Center.

As the very basis of human epistemology, the notion of “animism” almost always coevolved with human civilizations. In contemporary China, heightened globalization induced by continuous technological advances has interwoven with the tradition of naturalism to form the contextual environment in which Song deepens her exploration of animism. She integrates the concept of Ksetra, or pure land, from oriental religions into her mixed-media works, which, merging painting, installation, visual imagery, and sound, usually permeate the entire exhibition space and thus present a virtual “pure landscape” with multi-dimensionality and surrealism. As the third exhibition from the same series following A Thousand Kisses Deep (2012) and Asura Sukhavati (2015), Song continued her exploration of female bodies, subconscious mind, and imagination in Sukhavati 。o O. In recent years, she has developed her understanding of the Buddhist Ksetra as a “world unimaginable by human beings” to construct a series of transparent and luminescent works: “Human Beings of the Spiritual World,” “Tidal Waves,” and “Animated Spiritual Beings with Organs and Exotic Molecules.” Amidst the interplay between “subcultural” elements and visual effects of transparency, Song continues to refine her artistic idiosyncrasy.

During the exhibition, the artist was also collaborate with Cc Foundation to present Pop “Habitat,” mini magazines, and other art derivatives.
